2012 Apocalypse Blogfest! Sign-up

Happy New Year! It’s 2012!! What does that mean? The approaching (supposed) Mayan apocalypse this December, of course! In celebration of less than a year of happy normal lives, I’m inviting anyone to take part in the 2012 (Post-)Apocalypse Blogfest! This is a week-long event starting 9 January.

The point of this blogfest is to be informative and have fun! Participants will have three posts during the week posted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each participant will focus on one and only one (post-)apocalyptic world, and the posts for each day will describe and discuss aspects of the world depending on the day. The days and topics are as follows:

Monday 9 January — Introduction and History of the World: What world is this and where can it be found? How did the world get the way it is? Are there rules in this world that do not apply to our current world?
Wednesday 11 January — Survival in the World: How did people cope with this new world? How does a typical person survive? What obstacles would prevent their survival? What is a typical day for someone in this world? What can people do today that can prepare them for this world?

Friday 13 January — Relation in Today’s World: What factors of today will lead to this apocalyptic scenario? Is the story saying something about today’s society? What is it saying? Does it suggest changes and how to bring about them? What should a reader take away from the world and the story within it?

To sign up, simply comment below with your name, the name of your blog with link, and the (post-)apocalyptic world you will be researching. Be sure to read what everyone else is doing, because I won’t be allowing repeats! Worlds will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. There is so much in the world in terms of post-apocalyptic fiction. I don’t think there will be an issue. A semi-short list of suggested titles is found at the end of this post. Everyone who comments to sign up will be put on a list to be published the Saturday before the blogfest. This list will be the final list for the week.

Because of the various adaptions of many of these titles, please specify which format you will be using as source material. I WILL ALLOW two people to blog about the same story as long as they are using a different medium. For instance, someone can blog about The Walking Dead graphic novel and someone else can blog about The Walking Dead television show.

Due to the impromptu nature of this blogfest, it’s recommended that you use a story and world you are familiar with.

Registration begins now and closes Friday 6 January at 11:59PM.

To participate, each post must mention this blogfest (2012 (Post-)Apocalyptic Blogfest) and link back to this blog. Each post must also follow the theme for the day. I’ve posted several questions in regards to each theme, and you are free to give an in-depth answer to one or all of these questions. You can also answer questions of your own as long as they pertain to the theme of the day. Feel free to use the badge above for each post and for your own blog!

If you have any questions, feel free to use my Contact page to get a hold of me. You will get a response within 12 hours of sending your message.

Are we ready to go? Awesome! I’ll start things out.

    • An explanation of the post-apocalyptic world from either a book, movie, television show, graphic novel, etc. So more of a discussion piece. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear.
